General
An isolating transformer is a specific type of transformer with a galvanic isolation between the primary (input)
and secondary (output) windings.
Application
An isolating transformer can be used as current control transformer in panels on board of ships or offshore platforms,
in hospitals with medical examination and surgery rooms, on board of trains or in a(n) (tropical) environment as
power distribution transformer. The isolating transformer reduces the electrocution danger for people working
on the secondary side and prevents the appearance of disturbance for the secondary currents.
The secondary side in this case is the protected circuit.
An other application can be the prevention of unwanted currents on the primary side because of failures on the
secondary side.
