Soft starters

Lightsource Renewable Energy, Europe’s leading solar energy company and Wesemann BV have developed a new solution for soft starting power transformers in solar grid networks.

Rigid guidelines issued by UK network operators demand the least possible flicker and voltage drops during power transformer energizing. These guidelines demand sophisticated solutions to reduce the so-called “inrush currents” produced during magnetization of transformers. By reducing the inrush currents to levels lower than the nominal current these unwanted effects on the power network disappear completely.

The harsh environments where these pre-magnetization systems are applied require a reliable outdoor use system cabinet. Wesemann is specialized in developing smart solutions when power transformers are applied. Lightsource is recognised as one of the major solar grid developers throughout the UK and both companies have worked together “to switch the sunlight on”.
